Shinkyung Kim was born in Seoul, South-Korea in 1967.
She was winner of several national Violin-Competitions (e.g. Hanguk-Ilbo 1982) and in 1984
she won the first prize in the Jeunesses Musicales´International-Chamber-Music-Competition
of Aberdeen, Scotland with her Piano-Trio.
In 1985 she moved to Germany to study with Prof. Igor Ozim in Cologne (Diplom) and Prof.
Thomas Zehetmair in Berlin (Konzertexamen).During this time she also took classes with
G.Sebok and Hans Graf.
In 1998 Shinkyung Kim took over the position as first concertmaster of the “Dortmund
Philharmonic Orchestra” in Dortmund, Germany.
Since 2000 she has also taken the position as concertmaster of the “ Amadeus Chamber
Orchestra” in Dortmund.
Since 2001 Shinkyung Kim is member of the well known “Mannheim-String-Quartett”
(MSQ). As a member of the “Manheim-String-Quartet” she already appeared in several CDand
radio-productions. Besides concerts in Germany, the “Mannheim-String-Quartett” gave
concerts in Korea in 2001 and 2002 .
The members of the “Mannheim-String-Quartett” are also members of Dieter Klöckers
famous “Consortium Classicum”.
In 1998 Shinkyung Kim took part in a CD-production together with Matthias Buchholz and
Young-Chang Cho for Telos productions.
As a soloist Shingkyung Kim appeared with the “Dortmund-Philharmonic Orchestra”, the
“Amadeus Chamber Orchestra” and the “Sinfonie-Orchester-Berlin”.
In 2003 she performed as soloist with the Korean-Symphony-Orchestra during the Seoul-
International-Music-Festival, to play Karl Amdeus Hartmanns “concerto funbre” for the first
time in korea. This concert was produced by Korean television and broadcasting services.
